Buying a Juicer – Which is the Best For You?

When You’re Buying a Juicer For the First Time, How Do You Choose the Right One That Best Fits Your Lifestyle?

Have you made the decision to change your eating habits to take in more fruit and vegetables?

But you’re not crazy about the idea of eating 6 to 8 helpings of whole fruits and veggies every day?

Then buying a juicer just might be the perfect solution for you.

Turning those fruits and vegetables into a highly absorbent nutritious drink may be much more appealing to you.  You can virtually get your entire day’s worth of nutrients in one glass.

But how do you choose the right juicer that best fits your lifestyle?

There are many different types of juicers out there that range in price from around $30 such as the Black & Decker JE2200B 400-Watt Fruit and Vegetable Juice Extractor with Custom Juice Cup, to over $300, such as the Tribest SW-2000-B Slowstar Vertical Slow Juicer and Mincer.

There are even some commercial ones that cost over $1000.

There are:

  • fast juicers
  • slow juicers
  • noisy and quiet ones
  • juicers that are better at processing leafy greens
  • those that are better processing firmer foods
  • even citrus juicers for those that just want to make orange or grapefruit juices.

Things To Consider

  • Size can be an issue. Do you have plenty of room to have a large juicing machine sitting on your counter? Do you need a more compact one or do you have room for a taller centrifugal juicer?
  • Are you considering starting a juicing business, in which case you would need a large commercial type juicer?
  • How much money can you spend on a juice machine?
  • How much time do you have to spend?
  • Do you mainly want to make fruit juice or mainly green juice?
  • What’s the best juicer to buy for your needs?

So, there are a lot of things to consider.

How Much Can You Spend?

Let’s start with your budget.

How much can you honestly spend not only on purchasing a juicing machine, but also on the almost daily replenishing of fruits and vegetables? And since organic produce is of course better for us, that can also add more cost to your juicing experience.

If you’re not sure if juicing is for you and you’d like to try it out on a small scale, you might be better off to go with a less expensive product, such as the Black & Decker JE2200B 400-Watt Fruit and Vegetable Juice Extractor with Custom Juice Cup.

But if you’re sure this is what you want to do and you plan on making this healthy habit a daily part of your diet, you might want to go with a more expensive masticating machine such as the Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer.

Masticating vs Centrifugal – What’s the Difference?

There’s a distinct difference between a masticating juicer and a centrifugal one.

The masticating machine slowly mashes and squeezes the juice out of the produce.

The centrifugal one spins at much higher rpms to get the juice out, separating the juice from the pulp.

  • Squeezes and crushes the vegetables and fruit slowly
  • Leaves some of the pulp in to create a thicker drink
  • Produces a higher yield of juice
  • Is best with soft fruits and veggies, leafy greens and wheat grass
  • Produces very dry pulp due to the fact that it squeezes twice
  • Takes up a little more counter space horizontally

One of the best masticating juicers on the market, the Omega J8004 Nutrition Center Commercial Masticating Juicer, has approximately 1000 reviews on Amazon, with about 3/4 of those being 5-star reviews and is currently selling for between $200 and $300. This juicer is actually very similar to the Omega J8006 which has even more 5-star ratings.

  • Spins the juice out, separating the pulp into a pulp collector
  • Faster acting, but the juice must be ingested within minutes to absorb all the nutrients
  • Works best with firm fruit and veggies, less effective with leafy greens
  • Takes up a little more counter space vertically

Currently, one of the best centrifugal juicers, the Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice Extractor, has approximately 1500 reviews with most of those being 5-star reviews on Amazon.  You can learn more about this juicer on this page.

Slow Juicer

And now there is even a type of juicer called a slow juicer that is more vertical standing than a masticating one, so takes up less space, gets even more juice out of the produce and the nutrients and enzymes last longer – up to 3 days.

These are more expensive, but at least you can make enough juice for a couple of days instead of having to drink it right away.

One of the best slow juicers on the market right now is the Kuvings Whole Slow Juicer B6000S which currently sells for between $400 and $500 on Amazon.

Is Noise Going to Be a Factor For You?

Another thing to consider is the noise factor.

Will you be getting up early in the morning when others are sleeping and fixing yourself a glass of juice? If so, and if your budget allows, you might want to purchase a quieter slow juicer that would allow you to make the juice the night before without losing any essential nutrients.

This is definitely something to think about, because you don’t want to buy a juicer just to have the rest of your family complain about the noise when they’re trying to sleep.

So, with all these factors in mind, you can now browse through the reviews, compare the different  types and brands of juicers and decide which one will be best for you.   3 different types of juicers

Karleen, I have known a lot of people who have gained mightily with their health by juicing. Almost every health program emphasizes the benefits of vegetables.

I think almost everyone could profit from having a juicer. We purchased the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt Juice Extractor, which is the number one centrifugal juicer on Amazon. We love it!

My son took my juicer to his own apartment because he works at a farmers market. There were promises of veggie juice coming my way, but I don’t know – maybe I will have to buy another someday.
